Why Romania
Good reasons to consider it, and honest reasons to think twice.

The case for
Why patients look at Romania.
I
Regulated within the European Union
Romania is an EU member state. Dentists must be registered with the Colegiul Medicilor Stomatologi din România (CMSR) to practise, and clinics need an operating licence. Medical devices used in dentistry fall under EU rules.
II
Different cost base
Salaries, rents and running costs are generally lower than in the UK and Ireland, which is one reason treatment prices can differ. Lower cost should never be the only reason to choose a clinic.
III
Established private dentistry
Many clinics in the larger cities are used to treating patients from abroad and work with English-speaking teams. Ask each clinic about language before you book.
IV
Reachable cities
Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara each have an international airport. Routes from the UK and Ireland change, and some are seasonal, so always check current schedules.
The case against
What is harder when you are treated abroad.
None of these rules treatment out. They are things to plan for, and to discuss with your own dentist.
- More than one trip is often needed, with months of healing between visits.
- Follow-up and any corrections are harder to arrange from a distance.
- Your home dentist may be less familiar with the work and materials used.
- Standard travel insurance often excludes complications from planned treatment.
- Legal routes for complaints are those of the country where you were treated.

Treatments people travel for
Patients most often consider treatment abroad for larger, multi-stage work, where planning and the number of visits matter most. Our guides explain each treatment, who it may suit and what to ask:
Only a dentist who has examined you can say which treatment, if any, is right for you.
